[X] Howie - Session#6 Transcript

Dr. Fletcher

(writing notes) In this session Howie described Nathan's innovative plot against Republican resistance to gun control.

Howie

I spent a long time drafting a rather complex memo regarding attempts to impose gun control legislation at a national and state level in this country. Attempts on the part of many different people to chip away at the Second Amendment, which of course guarantees the right to bear arms on the part of all citizens.

There is legislation coming from different quarters and I drafted both an overall paper and a series of rather technical arguments to take on the various approaches to restricting, limiting and in some ways dispelling some of the intentions of the Second Amendment.

I draft this memo and I send it off and it's a fairly sophisticated memo. I thought it was an easy done deal. And once again - but this one is really poignant, Doctor - this memo was doctored totally. If I weren't scared I would almost tell you that I kind of - I don't know what to make of this, Doctor. I would be interested to hear if you have a reaction.

What went out under my name was the following: 'The Republicans have a new doctrine regarding guns in this country. We think that beginning in elementary school and through high school there should be a voluntary program supported by the government for those students who care to, to be transported by bus to gun clubs where they will learn proper safety in the use and exercise of firearms.'

I was staggered when I first heard that this was the memo that went out from under my name. But before I could say 'Error, error, interesting idea but error,' I started getting very loud, positive responses from Republican governors.
