(writing notes) Howie's recent onset of Multiple Personality Disorder is affecting him not as much in his personal life as his professional life.
Howie
I'm under attack and it's a sly enemy, Doctor. I'm here because I need help. Watch this latest one - very simple, but I'm shaken. I'm shaken.
As you've probably heard, in Texas a new amendment has been passed to the Texas Constitution banning same-sex marriage. Well, of course we Republicans think that's the way to go. I'll take you through the arguments as we see it. The reason I'll take you through it is I wrote a position paper in support of that position so dramatically effected by the voters in Texas.
When something goes out under my imprimatur it's understood that it works. Something horrible happened and again my own credibility is undermined.
I wrote a paper making the argument - you know the argument but I have to tell it to you so you can understand how sly my opponent - you can call him Multiple Personality Disorder, Dissociative - call him what you will. He's Nathan and he is sly.
Watch what happened. I wrote a paper in which I simply made the argument that the family, the stable heterosexual family is the best matrix in which to bring up children. This seems to be a fact substantiated over history by sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists. Marriage, which is the cauldron in which children are developed in our society, is a civic institution. There is a state interest in protecting that institution.

(writing notes) Howie's Democratic alter-ego is finding very clever ways to interfere with his political work.
Howie
That the state has therefore an obligation to attend to this institution, to protect it against depredations. Period. That's what I wrote. And Nathan - it was Nathan - added two words that awakened a hue and cry across the country. He added: "Like voting."
Howie (Wednesdays)
