[X] Gary - Session#32 Transcript

Dr. Fletcher

(writing notes) I was glad to hear that Gary has been dating. But as it often does, his OCD has been intruding on him in that realm.

Gary

So last weekend I went on a date with this girl, Jane. She was a friend of the family. And she was really just beautiful. Big tits, thin, tight ass. My type all the way.

We went out to this nice restaurant and we were talking and she kept bringing up the most inane things. She was telling about her uncle and then she was telling about her uncle's students when he was a high school teacher. Doesn't anything ever happen to this girl? It was utterly banal.

And then all of a sudden, at my moment of greatest repulsion, I had an episode of repeating.

Dr. Fletcher

OK, you mentioned that that's sometimes one of your compulsions.

Gary

Yeah. Sometimes I go into a period where I have to repeat everything that's said to verbatim. Otherwise I think that I'm just going to forget it completely. It's just going to float out of my mind. And I normally have a really good memory. It's only in these instances that I am compelled to do this - I had an episode of repeating. I started saying back everything that she was saying.

And at that point she mistook me for a really caring, interested guy. And from that point on we sort of just hit it off. I kept repeating and I just rode that. I rode it all the way to the bedroom. I fucked her.

(writing notes) What makes Gary a difficult patient is that there are ways in which his OCD contributes to his well-being.

Gary

I mean it was fantastic. I hadn't slept with a woman in a long time. And I was feeling pretty good about myself. So I went outside for a cigarette - she had already gone to sleep.

I was outside smoking and all of a sudden this woman who I guess lives across the hall walked out of her apartment. She had all these bags on her shoulder and she had a big jacket. She looked like she hadn't slept in forever. I think she was taking out the trash.

I took out my cell phone immediately and thought maybe I'd pretend I was checking my voicemail at 12 in the morning, I don't know. Anyway she struck up a conversation with me and I continued needing to repeat. She really opened up to me and was telling me all about her life, her family, where she went to school, what she was doing now.

I wasn't that interested in what she was saying but I couldn't pull myself away because I had to repeat everything that she said.

Dr. Fletcher

I think this is the sort of thing that medication might really be able to help you with.

Gary

Anyway I had been talking to this girl for about four and a half hours and all of a sudden the episode ended and I didn't have to repeat anymore. So I was thinking I could maybe put the moves on her. I had certainly ingratiated myself to her a fair amount.

And then she opened up to me that her boyfriend hits her and that sometimes he threatens that he's going to hurt her worse if she tells anyone. That just about did it. I went back into Jane's apartment and went to sleep.
